The album is mostly instrumentals and very different from most anything we’ve done. It is very dark, open and even psychedelic. It’s also very piano driven - most of the album was recorded on a upright piano we had when living in Missouri and all of the songs were recorded on a 8 track tape machine by us. We did a lot of editing on it at the house and added overdubs we thought we’re fun - anything from harmonica/slides to hammers and tools on “Tool Shed”.
We decided to call it The Great Deep as a moment to give everyone a fresh breathe of air - something that sounded open, like the songs themselves. Songs to listen to for reflection and relaxing. Nothing to do but be there and have SPACE. The whole thing was meant to be fun and freeing while showing the DIY diverse sound of The Captain’s Son. We’ve been wanting this to be heard for awhile and are glad to add it to our catalogue. Hope everyone enjoys it - be safe, sit back and just relax while we croon and stir your ear holes. Get wet in the crockpot. Nothing to do but ride and breathe. Enjoy The Great Deep.
